Whatever we seek to do in life, reality-check soon sets in and takes centre state of our youthful idealism. This reality comes in many names and forms: incentives, commitments, recognition, and politics. In every case, they can quickly redirect us from doing to being and from earning to pretending.
Appearances are deceptive and of course having authority is not the same as being an authority. Having the right and being right are not the same either.
Impressing people is utterly different from being truly impressive. So, which are you with? Which side will you choose? This is the test that life puts before us.
A lot of people want to change the world, and it’s good that they do. You want to be the best at what you do. Nobody wants to just be in an empty suit. But in practical terms, which things are you doing now that is going to get you there? Which are you practicing now? What’s fueling you?
Your choice has to be with purpose. What is your purpose? What are you here to do?
